For some reason I can't point out, I feel like I'm late to post - even though it's only 11am around here... but I've been up since 8ish because (a) it's the time I'm usually up and (b) since quarantine started, my University decided to go for live classes and mine go all morning (why, yes, I am writing this while I listen to my professor). But I digress, my classes are not my main subject here (but it could be - I study Translation, if anybody's interested :P).

I'm here to talk about what's most important during quarantines & lockdowns: entertainment!

Because, let's face it, following up on the news all the time can be depressing. Very depressing depending on where you are and what your country's doing about it - I'm from Brasil, and if you are a person who reads up on news a lot you might understand why I'm talking about the need for entertainment. From my perspective, we either do that and try to tune the world off for a bit or we don't and we might become alienated and even extremely scared, if we're not scared already. As someone who's dealt with anxiety and agoraphobia for years, I've found out that creating my comfortable bubble can help a lot.

Creating my comfortable bubble ended up creating a coughbit of a problemcough and I ended up getting attached to a lot of TV shows and watching movies whenever I have the time (last year I watched more than 200 movies, I think)... and I'm always looking out for MORE :D So here's a list of what I'm currently watching:

9-1-1: Lone Star
9-1-1
Castle Rock
Criminal Minds (I haven't watched the last season yet because I refuse to see this magnificent show end)
FBI: Most Wanted
Harrow
His Dark Materials
Into the Dark
Law & Order: SVU
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector
Miracle Workers
Nancy Drew
New Amsterdam
RuPaul's Drag Race

And my current obsession... Chicago Fire

I don't know what is it about the fire and the drama, but I've been loving it so far - I'm currently watching season 5 of 8. Maybe I'm a bit obsessed with firepeople series and medical series... and dramas in general - because then I don't have to focus on my own ha! And now here's what I want to know: what do YOU watch for entertainment? Be it movies, TV shows, miniseries, documentaries or if maybe you play video games instead of watching things... what's your entertainment? Tell me about and rec me new things as well!

Ah, fun question! Like you, I've been working on creating a comfortable bubble for myself for periods of anxiety like this one, and, like you, sometimes I get very, er, attached. (My partner says "obsessive.")

I'm not a huge Star Trek fan generally--I enjoy it but am not usually obsessive--but I'm deep into a re-watch of TNG right now, hungry for a universe with moral clarity and problems that can be resolved in 45 minutes. There was a (very rare) charaacter death on an episode I watched last night, and I was outraged--that was not what I signed up for!

I'm close to the end of the series (TNG) right now and hoping to start Picard next. It sounds like it starts off more morally grey than ST usually is--which normally would be my cup of tea--but I've heard rumors that it gradually transitions towards ST's typical moral clarity... M.

The last few days I've been binge-watching Property Brothers. All of them. In fact I've run out of Property Bros things to watch and now I'm the saddest girl that ever lived.

I recently discovered The Brokenwood Mysteries, a wonderful series from New Zealand. Which I also blew through. (It inspired a fic series, though, so there's that.)

This is also an excellent time to watch all my 80s movies, of which I have a gazillion. That's like comfort food to me. I'll quote lines, since along to soundtracks. The 80s make me happy.

I have three season one boxed sets of random TV that I haven't watched yet, so those might come into circulation soon.

The Brokenwood Mysteries are fantastic! I started an Acorn TV subscription a couple of months ago and got thoroughly hooked on that, and several other British Commonwealth shows.

I'm a sucker for a police procedural. Midsomer Murders, Murdoch Mysteries, Harrow, Father Brown, Shetland...I can't get enough of them.

It's really enjoyable! And even the recurring characters get story arcs, which is so much fun.

I love that.

Thanks again! I'm always so happy to find a new mystery series. M.

I loved the scenery in Shetland -- the high incidence of crime seemed a tad warped, but I didn't care when the clouds were being whipped by North Sea winds.

It's the curse of the murder mystery. LOL! One tiny island, one murder per month. I love watching Death in Paradise, but really, if people died with that frequency on such a small island, I'd never want to vacation there. ::grins::

Aww! I'm sorry! I only got to see it myself because my mom has Acorn and she lets me use it.

Psh, obsessive! We are just really empathic people who create relationships with fictional characters, is all.

:) Thaank you.

I didn't watch these series---TNG, Voyager, DS9--when they were first on tv, or even in reruns, though I'm old enough. Streaming tv has gotten me interested in tv again after years of not paying attention.

All of those 80s-90s ST series are great, in an old-school, serialized tv sort of way. I hope if you ever try them you enjoy! M.
