Here at
covidcoffeecorner, we start to close down as other parts of life open up. We've reached the end of May, and as many parts of the world are beginning to open their doors again, we're closing ours. We're going to shut down our virtual coffee machine, lift the chairs onto the tables, wipe down the floors, and count our blessings.
It's been a comfort for me to have somewhere to turn for conversation while isolating in my apartment and a joy to meet new people and learn so much from your topics of conversation. I hope you all feel the same way.
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered to host a conversation and kept us going for these past two and a half months:
smallhobbitt,
lashlarue,

Thank you, too, to everyone who kept us going by stopping by to comment. I'm not going to list names here because I don't want to leave anyone out, but you've all been amazing--thoughtful, funny, bringing to so much life experience, large and small, to our conversations.
Thanks to
light_of_summer, who had the brilliant idea of a post to collect conversation topics, and
octahedrite, who made our banners.
And so much appreciation to co-mod
therealsnape, whose comments about sociability got us going, who lent us the name for the comm, and who's been a key source of moral and practical support and level-headed good sense.
We're going to close down conversation here for the moment and hope (hope!) there will be no reason to reopen. But if any of you live in places that start go through a second wave, drop on by, let us know, and we'll re-open the cafe.
Your mods,
magnetic_pole and

ETA: an old-fashioned friending meme. Folks, I didn't think of this earlier when I was posting, but because many of us didn't know each other before chatting here, perhaps we'd like to stay in touch? Please feel free to add a comment if you're looking to connect with others on DW. I'll leave a text box below to make it (hopefully) less awkward.

on 2020-06-01 05:43 pm (UTC)I'm a bit terrified that this is not a reliable opening (in RL) or closure (online), but one day at a time, I suppose. Finger crossed that the universe smiles on us. M.

on 2020-06-01 05:55 pm (UTC)Massachusetts is still in phase 1, "safer at home" but reopening some businesses, so there's still not much going on, and I really hope they are timing this based on the science.
Everyone is welcome to stop by my journal, though I can't promise such interesting topics.

on 2020-06-01 06:36 pm (UTC)My journal is almost entirely access-only, but I am generally glad to add anyone.
Most of the time it's daily life stuff, with a side of what my friends delight in calling "librarian-smash", where I deconstruct other people's bad research, plus bits of witchy goodness and my writing projects (writing stuff is mostly filtered: let me know if you want to be on that. I don't post long text, it's more "here's how the writing stuff is going" with word counts and sales as relevant.)

on 2020-06-01 06:57 pm (UTC)In normal times I tend to post a couple of times a week; now, it's just about every day.
A bunch of that is day-to-day stuff like gardening and trying out new recipes. I also post about health/medical stuff (though some of that is access-locked), what I'm reading, socializing/relationships, politics, and what I'm reading.

on 2020-06-01 07:19 pm (UTC)I'd enjoy getting into contact with others who participated here. As of now, I only post sporadically, mostly memes and signal boosts, with occasional forays into things that don't conveniently fit into a comment. But I'm a frequent commenter, and promptly respond in kind to anyone who subscribes and/or grants access. There's bits of stuff about me in some of my recent posts and friending memes, but maybe I'll be motivated to put something up so people who link up can leave a comment.

on 2020-06-01 07:27 pm (UTC)I would love new people to read! I post on a regular basis, at least once a week but often several times a week. I read my reading list numerous times a day. I'm not always great about commenting due to social anxiety, but I'm working on getting better at that.
My journal is a good part squeeing about video games. I play three ongoing games: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, War of the Visions:FFBE, and Final Fantasy XIV. I also knit and crochet, and do a monthly round-up post to show off what I've worked on during the month.
The other main part of my journal is introspection as I ponder my therapy sessions (I'm mentally ill). There's also talk about family.
My journal's adding policy is pretty open: anybody is welcome to add me/give access at any time. I'll likely add you back. Anybody is also free to remove me at any time; I don't make drama when I am removed (though I might get confused for a minute, but I usually just shrug and go on with my life.)

on 2020-06-01 09:32 pm (UTC)Anyone wants to take a look at my journal, you'll be welcome—I am a bit of a flibbertigibbet and mostly frivolous, though I will get querulous about misuse of the English language at times. I'm likely to reciprocate any new Subscribes, but I don't grant Access because I really don't put up locked posts (on the very rare occasions when I do, they are restricted to people I've known for years).

on 2020-06-01 11:44 pm (UTC)I'm always open to making new friends; most of my posts are locked, but I'm happy to add people to my list. I tend to ramble on about life stuff. I am HUGELY into BBC Sherlock (I'm a lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan), but I do most of my fangirling over on Tumblr.

on 2020-06-01 11:49 pm (UTC)I should be forward and say that I'm not a "day to day" blogger. It's a nerdy and somewhat old school LJ-esque account. If you miss LJ in 2005, we'll probably get along, because I'm stuck in 2005 as far as LiveWidth is concerned. Also, I'm the kind of person who made up a portmanteau for "Livejournal and DreamWidth." That tells you a lot about me. ;)

on 2020-06-02 01:46 am (UTC)I tend to post several times a week about life, the universe, sometimes politics - Australian and American, social justice, my own personal faith, my garden and how it grows or doesn't, my cats, my family, my work, and musings on life the universe and everything.
It's pretty much my space for posting things that I don't post on Twitter or FB, or my blogs. A general dumping ground for my thoughts.
There's marginal fannish stuff (although I'm presently running a fannish meme), my most recent fandoms were MCU, Pacific Rim, and Rogue One but before that and generally mixed in there were Stargate Atlantis, Justice League (cartoon series and marginally/generally the movies - specifically WW and Justice League), Star Wars (originals, prequels, sequels), Stargate SG1, Merlin BBC, Battlestar Galactic, Harry Potter, Firefly, Jupiter Ascending, NCIS, Buffy (S1-4), Angel and a lot of other little bits and pieces.
I'd love it if there's anyone interested in connecting!

on 2020-06-02 06:16 pm (UTC)I'm looking for connections on DW! I tend to post more than once each week, I've been quiet lately because of studies, but those days are over now :) I talk about a mix about real life, what I read and watch, I share of my hobbies, like, photography and I have a dwellpositivity post every month where I post about good, wise, happy and beautiful things.

on 2020-06-03 03:20 am (UTC)I'm looking for connections on DW (and/or LJ)! I tend to post an average of once a week - sometimes a bit more or less often - about stuff I've done, my teenagers (high school senior daughter, sophomore trans son) and other family members, a venting place if I need to rant about annoyances, and work when I have work (substitute teacher and library volunteer when school is normal). Am applying to library school right now. I like fantasy books, cozy mysteries, m/m romance, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes (multiple canons), MCU, and random other bits and bobs. I bake, knit, sew/quilt, read, write (occasionally), draw (occasionally), do Paint Nites ... stuff like that. Bored yet? ;-)
